Product Care

To keep your animal in the best of health for a long and happy life, may we suggest the following care tips:

  • Dust and apply a coat of NIKWAX Waterproofing Wax regularly (say every 6 weeks). DO NOT USE any spray or liquid polish as these will damage the colour
  • Keep your animal dry and away from water. Regular coats of NIKWAX will help waterproof your animal against water damage
  • Keep your animal out of direct sunlight and or direct heat to prevent leather from drying out
  • Supervise very young children playing with an animal. They have a tendency to put tails, ears etc in their mouth and the stain may come off. NOTE: the stain is NON TOXIC
  • The product is designed primarily as a decorative item for the home. It is NOT built to furniture standards and the internal frame will only stand a certain amount of rough play!

If the colour of your animal does fade and you would like to darken up, please purchase a bottle of stain to apply. To get best results, Nikwax should be applied after re-staining.

Product features specific to this piece are:

  • Ivory leather eye
  • Internal wooden frame
  • Suitable for use as a footstool or occasional table
  • Overall dimensions are L 95 cm x W 45cm (excl flippers) x H 35cm. Weight 12kg

Pig -

Statement

Celebrating 90 Years 1927 – 2017

To celebrate our 90th Anniversary in 2017,  we designed a limited edition replica of the original Omersa pig – 1st made by “Old Bill” in 1927! Production is limited to 90 pigs. The issue number is sewn on to the belly alongside our OMERSA badge which gives the year of manufacture. This piece has a long straight back making it ideal for use as a footstool.

Omersa badge and number

The picture below (on left) is of a pig dated 1931. They had very long noses and body. Our replica has slightly shorter features to make it a more attractive and is based on the pig dated 1958 on the right.

The same methods and tools as those originally employed are used to make the pig. The main difference is that the original pigs were made from pigskin. This ceased in the mid 1970’s when suitable pigskin was no longer available and cowhide used instead.

Camel -

Statement

Our leather camel  was released in 2006. It is available with or without red leather saddle bags. The saddle bags are large enough to store TV remotes on either side. Never to be lost again! Due to its shape, this piece is not suitable for use as a footstool.

The picture shows the camel with saddle bags made from red suede leather. We can also make using the same leather as used for the camel in a slightly lighter brown colour. If you prefer this please mention in the Comments Box.

Kangaroo -

Statement

Our leather kangaroo is a quirky piece and was added to the range in 2005. It is based on a vintage (much larger) leather kangaroo found in Spain, scaled down. The pouch is designed to hold a TV remote control – never to be lost again!

Features specific to this product are:

  • interior firmly stuffed with woodwool enabling it to stand upright, supported by the tail
  • leather pouch on the tummy where small household items  can be stored
  • ears edged with wire to keep upright

Below is a lovely instagram picture of our kangaroo in situ

History

We were asked to replicate a vintage leather kangaroo that had been seen in Spain. The picture below shows the vintage kangaroo we based our kangaroo on. It is significantly taller (around 4 feet) than ours and we think was made in Spain during the 70’s. The manufacturer is unknown.
