Our About Omersa page explains How Our Animals are Made and the type of leather we use – top grain cowhide – where natural markings are used to add to the animals character. We do not consider them a flaw.
The published dimensions are approximate as each piece of leather behaves differently during the handcrafting process.
The Omersa Collection is a range of timeless, handcrafted leather animals, designed as decorative objets d’art for an interior space.
The animals are designed and made to order in Omersa’s workshop based in Louth, Lincolnshire.
Our animals are made from premium, UK‑sourced cowhide leather. Inside, a strong metal and wooden frame gives each piece its weight and durability, around which sustainable woodwool is hand‑worked to create the form and character of the animal.
For further information please see About Omersa – How Our Animals are Made.
They’re crafted as distinctive focal points for interiors — loved by designers, used in hotel projects, and treasured by homeowners who appreciate character and craftsmanship.
Yes. They’re wonderful gifts for weddings, anniversaries, and special occasions. They’re especially popular with men, and children adore them — many families say their Omersa becomes a much‑loved part of childhood.
Many of our customers have made gifting an animal at family weddings and other significant occasions a tradition. They become family heirlooms enjoyed by several generations.
Our size categories offer a general guide to the length and overall scale of each animal.
- Miniature and Small pieces are perfect for desks, shelves, mantel displays and doorstops.
- Standard, Medium, and Large animals are floor‑standing designs that make a strong decorative statement. Thanks to their sturdy internal frame some of our customers use them as footrests.
- And finally, our Super King Rhinoceros is a truly commanding centrepiece — a substantial, sculptural design that always attracts attention.
Why can the same animal vary in size?
- Because each Omersa animal is completely handcrafted, the leather responds differently during making. Even when cut from the same pattern, no two pieces will ever be identical — this is one of the joys, sometimes frustrations, of working with our leather.Variations in shape and size are natural and part of the unique charm and personality of every Omersa.
Whilst the same colour stain is applied to all our animals, each hide is different in the way it reacts to the stain thereby obtaining different finishes.
To record your animals name, you need to register an account with Omersa. Once registered, access you Ownership record via the Omersa VIP Club. Go to the bottom of page where you can enter the name of an animal purchased directly from Omersa or ADD an animal that you have purchased or been gifted elsewhere.
Omersa animals are made to last a lifetime.
They’re crafted to be part of your family for generations, but they do need to be treated kindly and cared for following our Care Instructions – see booklet attached to each animal.
If your animal becomes worn or damaged, our Animal Hospital offers repair services. You’ll find further details — including video guides on caring for your animal — in the Animal Hospital section of our website.
Omersa animals are not designed as toys.
Young children — especially those under 3 — should always be supervised around them.
Please also read the Product Safety Card attached to the tail of your animal, as it highlights important safety information.
Some online sellers label any leather animal as being made by Omersa, even when it isn’t.
To help you identify an authentic piece, please see About Omersa – How to Spot an Omersa Original on our website.
Remember, since 2017 each animal made by OMERSA has a badge sewn on the underbelly confirming its provenance.
To keep your animal in good condition, keep out of direct sunshine, and away from water and heat.
Apply a coat of good quality wax polish from time to time to nourish the leather, keep it supple and minimise colour transfer.
Nikwax Waterproofing wax can be purchased through our on line shop- see Care Products
Should the eyes on your animal become loose, or detached, head over to the Animal Hospital page and watch the video on How to Reattach Eyes.
If the eyes are lost, you can order a pair through the on line shop – see Care and Other Products.
We typically recommend using Nikwax Waterproofing wax which is available through our on line shop – see Care and Other Products.
Otherwise, use a good quality hard wax, for example beeswax. Warm the wax up slightly so it softens and apply with a soft cloth. Buff up to a shine once hardened.
DO NOT USE furniture spray polishes or general purpose leather conditioners. These products contain chemicals which mark the leather.
