Pig

The story goes that “Old Bill”, who worked in the leather trade, made a leather pig footstool from offcuts of leather circa 1927. He continued to make leather pigs, from pigskin in those days, until his retirement around 1958 when he passed on the business to Dimitri Omersa. It was after this date that Dimitri Omersa started to add new animals to the range.

The style of the pig and size has changed over the years. Pictures of older pigs are shown in the Gallery.

Leather is a natural product and like our own skin needs looking after.

To keep your animal in the best of health for a long and happy life, we suggest the following care tips:

  • Dust and apply a coat of good quality wax polish (say every 6 weeks). DO NOT USE any spray or liquid polish or leather cleaners as these may damage the stain applied
  • Keep your animal dry and away from water. Regular coats of wax polish will help waterproof your animal
  • Keep your animal out of direct sunlight and or direct heat to prevent the leather from drying out
  • Supervise very young children (up to 3 years age) who like to put tails, ears, etc in their mouth. The water based stain may come off on to the face and clothing
  • Avoid lifting the animal by ears and tail to prevent stitch deterioration

We recommend the use of Nikwax Waterproofing Wax which is available to buy on site under Care Products or alternatively a product like beeswax which is excellent for the leather. Warm the beeswax lightly until “greasy” and apply a small amount on a soft lint free cloth. Buff up to a shine.
