The Omersa animal is primarily designed as a decorative accessory for an interior space.
We know that children love to play with our animals but please note they are NOT DESIGNED AS A TOY and children should be supervised when playing, particularly children under the age of 3 years who could CHOKE on an “eye” should it become detached.
All of our 4 legged styles are constructed around a sturdy metal and wooden frame. This provides a robust structure to the animal enabling it to be used also as a footrest, doorstop or paperweight depending upon size.
The internal frame of the larger pieces will withstand average adult weight and a certain amount of rough play but please be aware the product is built primarily as an ornament.
The animals are made using top grain “unfinished” cowhide leather which will develop natural scuff marks reflecting the wear and tear of life. We consider this “wearing” a desirable feature of our animals.
Due to the handcrafting process and the nature of our leather, no two animals are the same and published dimensions are approximate. Each piece is unique!
The final stages of production involve hand staining, waxing and polishing the animal. CAUTION: there can be some colour transfer particularly in the early life of the animal. We highly recommend a coat of good quality wax polish is applied on a regular basis to help build up a protective coat. See Product Care below.
The internal filling is woodwool, made from pine wood. In the event that any woodwool becomes exposed (eg damage to leather), please be aware the woodwool is FLAMMABLE and should be kept away from naked flame.

Leather is a natural product and like our own skin needs looking after.
To keep your animal in the best of health for a long and happy life, we suggest the following care tips:
- Dust and apply a coat of good quality wax polish (say every 6 weeks). DO NOT USE any spray or liquid polish or leather cleaners as these may damage the stain applied
- Keep your animal dry and away from water. Regular coats of wax polish will help waterproof your animal
- Keep your animal out of direct sunlight and or direct heat to prevent the leather from drying out
- Supervise very young children (up to 3 years age) who like to put tails, ears, etc in their mouth. The water based stain may come off on to the face and clothing
- Avoid lifting the animal by ears and tail to prevent stitch deterioration
We recommend the use of Nikwax Waterproofing Wax which is available to buy on site under Care Products or alternatively a product like beeswax which is excellent for the leather. Warm the beeswax lightly until “greasy” and apply a small amount on a soft lint free cloth. Buff up to a shine.
